If you’re ready for a hiking experience that combines both challenge and stunning scenery, look no further than The Elephant. Named for its distinctive shape when viewed from South Kinangop, this peak promises not only a unique climb but also breathtaking panoramic views of the Kinangop and the Kinangop Plateau.
Your Path to Triumph
The journey to conquer The Elephant typically begins en route to Kinangop, adding an extra layer of adventure to your expedition. As you set out, be sure to steer clear of the game trails to the east. Instead, follow the ridge straight up, passing through picturesque bamboo groves before reaching more manageable terrain. Along the way, you’ll find a derelict hut approximately three hours into your hike, offering possible camping spots nearby. Alternatively, you can opt to rest inside the hut for the night, ensuring a comfortable and safe stopover.
The Summit Awaits
Continuing your journey in a northerly direction for about another hour, you’ll finally reach The Elephant, which boasts four equally impressive summits. For those with the spirit of adventure, conquering all four summits is a rewarding challenge that takes approximately an hour to complete.
